Painting familiar and much-loved subjects but scrutinizing them for colour and light is a curious challenge. It is harder to see the things closest to us. I have to fight my knowledge of them. In my painting boundaries that define discrete objects soften or dissolve and equal value and attention is given to the entire canvas.
