Yard-square still lifes, in acrylic and pigment on canvas, each painting a study of one thing - from a dead hare to a group of four different types of peach - on a layered ground.

Working as a multi-disciplined artist, designer and writer Philippa Stockley has designed costumes, clothes and textiles; worked on domestic and commercial trompe l’oeil and interiors projects here and abroad; designed book jackets for several publishing houses, particularly Yale University Press, and illustrated books.

She has worked on four national newspapers and is currently deputy editor of the Evening Standard’s Homes & Property magazine.

She read English at Oxford and art-historical Costume History at the Courtauld, with scholarships and masters degrees at both.

Philippa Stockley’s first novel will be published in August by Time Warner Books, UK.

Gallery 286 is situated in a Victorian townhouse on the Earl’s Court Road, at the Old Brompton Road end. Its interior and garden have been featured in several magazine articles and in a documentary for Fuji TV on British Lifestyles. Viewing is by appointment.
