This year I have invited Andrew Logan, famed for his mirrored sculptures and jewellery and for staging a series of incomparable Alternative Miss World contests, to be the guest curator of my Christmas show. Andrew has been a frequent visitor to the gallery as he shares my love of holography and, since I have always adored his work, I was thrilled that he agreed to choose a selection of his favourite artists to show at 286 this season. Zandra Rhodes and Duggie Fields are two of Andrews oldest friends and I am sure that their work will be familiar to most of you. Zandra will be showing framed watercolours and fashion drawings, some framed in special Zandra Rhodes pleated fabric. She will also be displaying two chiffon garments that can be hung as works of art or taken down and worn. Duggie will be showing giclee prints in his own unique, iconic style and some larger acrylic works as well. He is an Earls Court neighbour but this is the first time he has exhibited at 286 - long overdue! Piers Atkinson, a brilliant designer of costumes and events, who numbers Andrew Logan and Zandra Rhodes amongst his clients, will be showing some of his fantastical drawings. Kate Malone, an internationally reknowned and much collected ceramicist, whose work is based on the natural forms of the sea and land will be showing some mouth-watering pieces that are bound to go fast - so come early! Alexandra Leadbeater is another artist whose inspiration comes from nature and everyday objects. Her works in acrylic and watercolour, pastel and digital prints, have been using oyster shells as a motif for the last few years. Jennifer Binnies current works are a hybrid of painting and sculpture. The motifs are based on flower forms but look closely and you will discover that they are painted on hubcaps - a wonderfully creative form of recycling! Dominic Snow works in a number of genres all characterised by his vibrant use of colour. In this exhibition he will be showing some of his mind-expanding abstract paintings. Andrew himself will be exhibiting jewellery and small sculptural works - some of the jewellery pieces doubling up as sculptures that can be hung in frames. His instantly recognisable work is owned by some of the most stylish people in the world - make sure you come along and join the club! As you can see it is a sparkling selection that Andrew has put together for you - perfect Christmas present material and all very reasonably priced. Christmas at 286 is always a merry affair and after the gap last year it is particularly good to be doing it again. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Private Views on December 10, 12 and 15 but the show continues until Christmas Eve so just give us a call if you want to drop in afterwards. Happy Christmas! Jonathan Ross & Camilla Shivarg |
