Falling on Midsummers Eve, this was originally a pagan festival. One of the most curious customs was that young courting lovers should roll naked in oat fields. The term flock is used to describe the members of the church. A lamb is the emblem of St. John. It was also believed that eating a lizard on this day would improve ones complexion. |
