Artist’s statements are rather like circular arguments in their
self-reference.

Art itself is a reflexive project; my own being more circular – cyclical – than linear, which is why I seem always to end up where I began! Of course we know this cannot actually be the case. However, I sometimes fantasise that these artworks are analogous to those speculations of science that assert that if we could look into infinity all we would see is the back of our head.

This may suggest a wish to use art as a kind of window through which to see myself, but from an angle not reflected in the mirror – the narrative viewpoint. Perhaps it is more a question of trying to realise the potentiality of a future. Since every future has a past, mine confirms the indissoluble and deep relation between the visible and the readable. Yes, everything is implicated, everything is complicated, and every object is also a pseudo-object: a sign, an essence, or a meaning – even if that meaning has, as in my work, no obvious referent.
