In my attempt to explore the 'Kinetic' feature of holography, I collaborated with Martin Richardson in the Modern Holography Program at DeMontfort University, in Leicester, to produce a series of digital art holograms and lenticulars with an open and experiential reference to light capture as energetic element. The title of this series of digital stereographic holograms is 'Changing Thoughts'. They allude to the interrelationship the observer has in assuming an understanding of what they see, only to suddenly change when they find out that what they are seeing is actually something quite different to what they had understood. The concepts of these holograms are related with different moving shapes of light occupying the same space, the plane of the holographic plate, back and front. The shape selected to develop this work was the human body. My concerns are with the observer's visual interaction relating to the animated depiction of the hologram, what the shapes are doing when they are moving in front of the holographic plate and the fact that those shapes depict human form. In accordance with phenomenological terminology, the body is often treated as a synergic system in the process of action and response, the emphasis being on perception rather than on analytical reflection. Isabel Azevedo is a multimedia artist who investigates the relationships between art, science and technology. Having light as a subject matter, she produced and presented multimedia environments and holographic installations, in places like Teatro Académico Gil Vicente, Coimbra, Museu Grão Vasco, Viseu, Centro Cultural de Congressos de Aveiro, Portugal, Stadtmuseum, St. Pölten, Áustria. Isabel received the Revelation Prize in 1º Biennale of Art of Sintra, 1987. She has published and given talks in several international conferences, CIANTEC - International Congress in Art, New Technologies and Communication, São Paulo, Brasil, VIII International Symposium on Display Holography, Shenzhen, China, SPIE's Photonic West, San Francisco, USA. Isabel is a Postdoctoral researcher in De Montfort University, Leicester, in Art Holography, with a grant from Fundação da Ciência e Tecnologia, Portugal, PhD in Art Studies, from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, Undergraduate in Fine Arts, from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Porto, Portugal. |
