This exhibition largely features the unique optical paintings of Roy Amiss that he has dubbed 'Hand-painted holographs', owing to their similarity in appearance to holograms, but emphasising the hand-made aspect of using a paintbrush instead of a laser. In these works, he has reconstructed photographic portraits of the famous, aiming to add the 3rd Dimension to the original flat photograph. He does this by painting on nylon net screens in layers and by using mathematics. His latest works develop these optical paintings further, combining the moiré effect, stereoscopic painting and computer pixelation. The exhibition also includes other work such as his optical paintings on canvas. View a video of Roy Amiss' work. |
